MEN'S BASKETBALL
Saturday (Jan. 4), the Howard University men's basketball team dropped its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener, 78-66, to the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks at the Hytche Athletic Center. Senior guard
Charles Williams (Richmond, Va.) led all scorer, recording 21 points on shooting 8-of-13 from the floor.
Two nights later (Jan. 6), the Bison fell to Bethune-Cookman, 102-73, inside Burr Gymnasium. Freshman guard
Wayne Bristol, Jr. (Upper Marlboro, Md.) paced HU, tying a career-high 25 points in the loss.
Howard continues its home stand Saturday (Jan. 11) versus Norfolk State. Tipoff at 4 p.m. Two nights later (Jan. 13), the Bison take on South Carolina State at 7:30 p.m. inside The Burr.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
On Jan. 4, the Howard University women's basketball team won its MEAC opener with a 79-58 victory at Maryland Eastern Shore. Second-year forward
Krislyn Marsh (Duncanville, Texas) provided the inside presence, producing a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards in the win.
Two nights later (Jan. 6), the Bison opened its three-game home stand with a loss against Bethune-Cookman (B-CU) inside Burr Gymnasium. Senior guard
Ayonna Williams (Washington) was the lone Bison in double-figures, producing a game-high 24 points on 9-of-10 shooting at the charity stripe.
Howard continues its home stand Saturday (Jan. 11) versus Norfolk State. Tipoff at 2 p.m. Two nights later (Jan. 13), the Bison take on South Carolina State at 5:30 p.m. inside The Burr.
WOMEN'S LACROSSE
Tuesday (Jan. 6), the Howard University women's lacrosse team announces its 2020 schedule, featuring 15 regular season matches, including seven inside Greene Stadium.
On Feb. 3, HU opens the season at Presbyterian. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
MEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
On Jan. 4, the Howard University men's swimming & diving team opened the new year with a tough 129-135 loss at UMBC. Freshman
Luke-Kennedy Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas) returned to the pool, recording the program's sixth-fastest time in the men's 1650 Free, clocking in at 17:22.53.
Tuesday (Jan. 7), Thompson and junior Jalen Watson (Miami) swept the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) weekly honors for their outstanding efforts at UMBC. Thompson claimed CCSA Swimmer of the Week while the Miami native took home league's top diver weekly honor.
On Jan. 18, the Bison host a three-team meet inside Burr Pool against Marymount and Mount St. Mary's. The Senior Day festivities start 1 p.m.
WOMEN'S SWIMMING & DIVING
Saturday (Jan. 4), the Howard University women's swimming & diving team suffered a 120-134 setback at the hands of UMBC. Second-year swimmer
Madison Freeland (Glenside, Pa.) led the way, producing the program's fourth-best time in the women's 1650 Free (19:01.10).
On Jan. 18, the Bison host a three-team meet inside Burr Pool against Marymount and Mount St. Mary's. The Senior Day festivities start 1 p.m.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
Saturday (Jan. 4), the Howard University men's track and field resumed its indoor season at the Father Diamond Invitational, hosted by George Mason, where several Bison shined. On the track, four Bison qualified for the 2020 MEAC Indoor Championships in Landover, Md.
Friday (Jan. 10), Howard travels to the Big Apple, New York City, for the HBCU Battle at the Track.
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
On Jan. 4, Howard University junior sprinter
Ameenah Saalih (Willingboro, N.J.) and sophomore thrower
Diana Effiom (Dallas) headlined the Father Diamond Invitational, hosted by George Mason, with record-setting performances. Saalih won the women's 60-meter dash with a new school mark (7.54) while the Dallas native threw over 50 feet (15.38 meters).
Friday (Jan. 10), Howard travels to the Big Apple, New York City, for the HBCU Battle at the Track.
