WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Howard University men's basketball could not contain Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference preseason player of the year Cletrell Pope as he exploded for 28 points and 15 rebounds leading Bethune-Cookman to a 102-73 victory, Monday night at Burr Gymnasium.
Howard's Wayne Bristol, Jr. paced the Bison tying a career-high 25 points, Charles "CJ" Williams who moved up to third place on the MEAC all-time career points list recorded 15 points, and Zion Cousins recorded his third double-double, scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds.
After, battling to an 8-8 tie five-minutes into the contest when B-CU took over going on a 23-7 run in seven minutes to take a 31-14 lead.
Howard traded baskets with Bethune-Cookman to halftime, going into intermission down 50-37.
Bethune-Cookman kept the momentum in the second half, scoring 52 points.
The Bison bench struggled and did not record a point until the end of the second half at one point being held 33-0, ending the game 43-12.
Howard's held a 24-15 second-chance point advantage.
Up next for the Bison is a home match against Norfolk State University on Military Appreciation Night, tip-off is scheduled 30 minutes after the conclusion of the Women's basketball contest. The Women's game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
