Women’s Hoops Travel to Morgan State Saturday

Bison battle Lady Bears in pivotal conference matchup

WASHINGTON (January 17, 2020) – Howard University women's basketball team travels up the Beltway to Baltimore to face Morgan State (MSU) in a pivotal Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) showdown. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. inside Hill Field House.

MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
Saturday's clash will the 72nd meeting between Howard and Morgan State with HU leading the series, 52-19, including last season's sweep of the Lady Bears.
 
HOWARD
 
HU (10-7, 2-2 MEAC) looks to get back over .500 in league play and build momentum as the MEAC race heats up.
 
Offensively, Howard tops the conference in scoring (69.8 ppg), led by senior guard Ayonna Williams (Washington) with a team-leading 14.1 points per game. Fellow backcourt mate Sarah Edmond (Freeport, N.Y.) adds 13.9 ppg while third-year sharpshooter Jayla Thornton (Newark, N.J.) chips in 13.5 ppg.
 
Senior forward Imani Bryant (Berkeley, Calif.) anchors the Bison defense, registering a MEAC-best 1.8 blocks per game.
 
MORGAN STATE
 
MSU (6-11, 2-2 MEAC) enters the weekend looking to get back on track after losing to Bethune-Cookman, 65-74, Monday (Jan. 13). After Saturday's showdown with HU, the Lady Bears close out their two-game home stand against North Carolina A&T State Monday (Jan. 20).
 
Morgan State is led by Chelsea Mitchell, who is averaging 13.9 points per game and a team-leading 8.8 rebound per contest.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
Last weekend, Howard split a pair of leagues games inside The Burr.
 
On Jan. 11, HU dropped a tough bout versus Norfolk State, 80-83, inside Burr Gymnasium. Williams led the Bison attack, scoring 27 points on 9-of-16 shooting with four buckets from downtown.
 
Two nights later (Jan. 13), the Bison ended its three-game home stand with a dominating 78-47 victory over South Carolina State. Five Bison reached double figures, led by Thornton with 14 points while Edmond added 13 points in the win.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
After a week away from the hardwood, HU returns home to face Florida A&M. Saturday's (Jan. 25) tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
 
Two nights later (Jan. 27), the Bison travel back to Baltimore to meet Coppin State. The action starts 5:30 p.m. inside PEC Arena.
