WASHINGTON (September 6, 2019) – Howard University women's soccer opened its three-match homestand by knocking off Robert Morris (RMU), 2-1, at Greene Stadium.
With the win, HU moved to 2-1 overall while the Colonials dropped to 1-3-1 on the young season.
"It was a hard fought game," said Howard Women's Soccer head coach
Brent Leiba. "I am proud of their effort and getting a well-deserved result."
Howard remained the attackers throughout, outshooting Robert Morris, 20-13.
At the 37-minute mark, sophomore
Arianna Morgan (Oklahoma City) found junior
Elexa Pierson (Kansas City, Mo.) for a shot, but RMU recovered; however, third-year forward
Bayley Carmichael (Houston) cleaned up off the ricochet and gave the Bison a 1-0 advantage.
After intermission, sophomore
Thalia Boucher (Toronto, Canada) provided an insurance goal at the 57-minute mark and gave HU a commanding 2-0 lead.
Thanks to a foul inside the box, Robert Morris got back into the match on a penalty kick from Kayla Veloso-Lima; however, Howard would keep their composure to hold off the Colonials, 2-1.
HU continues its homestand Monday (Sept. 3) when local rival Washington Adventist comes calling. Match time is slated for 3 p.m. inside Greene Stadium.
