The two-day tourney puts HU against Columbia (noon) and Canisius (5 p.m.) Friday (Sept. 6), followed by St. John's (noon) Saturday (Sept. 7) on ESPN3.

LAST TIMEOUT
Monday (Sept. 2), the Bison dropped a tough five set match to local foe Maryland (23-25, 26-24, 16-25, 25-21, 9-15) Monday night on Labor Day in front of nearly 1,000 spectators.
Sophomore outside hitter
Kailyn Williams (Arlington, Texas) led the way with a team-leading 12 kills while third-year Bison
Jurnee Tipton (Ypsilanti, Mich.) recorded nine kills and nine digs in a losing effort.
Freshmen setters
Semira Blair (Fort Worth, Texas) and
Kayla Diaz (Nanuet, N.Y.) combined for 39 assists while, defensively, junior libero
Fola Wilson (Minneapolis, Minn.) produced a match-high 24 digs in the loss.

COLUMBIA
Columbia opens the new season returning five starters from the 2018 squad. Head coach Allison Keeley added nine newcomers to the mix as a young, but talented 2019 Columbia squad gets the season started. The squad is led by sophomore Emily Teehan (2018 Second-Team All-Ivy League).
CANISIUS
Canisius (2-1) comes in after taking two-of-three matches at the Sacramento State Invitational to open the season. After dropping the season opener against Sacramento State (3-0), the Griffs won the next two matches, taking down Nevada (3-2) and CSU Bakersfield (3-2) and they carry a two-match winning streak into the weekend.
ST. JOHN'S
Entering the weekend, St. John's (1-3) won its previous match, 3-0, at NJIT (Sept. 3). The Red Storm opened the season at the Hawaiian Airlines Rainbow Wahine Classic, where they faced off with Washington (L, 0-3), hosting Hawaii (L, 2-3) and San Diego (L, 0-3).
UPCOMING SEASON
Tuesday (Sept. 10), Howard hosts Loyola (Md.) in their home opener. First-serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside The Burr.
Tuesday's promotion is Taco Tuesday, sponsored by El Tio Grill D.C., and the first 200 students will receive a taco at the match.
