Lexington, Va. -- Howard University men's soccer team recorded a season-high four goals, defeating the Virginia Military Institute Keydets 4-2, Saturday, in a non-conference tilt. Officials called the game with 10:30 left in regulation, due to lightning in the area and after an hour delay.
The Bison took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick by
Andres Gomez 9-minutes into the game.
After 60-minutes of scoreless play, the action picked up at the 72-minute mark.
Gomez recorded his second goal of the game on another penalty kick. VMI countered in less than a minute, as Fabian Valasquez scored on an assist from Micheal Ogenyi.
Duncan Dunkwu got into the action scoring back-to-back goals to put the game out of reach 4-1 at the 76:51 mark.
The Keydets scored on a rebound with 10:30 left on the game clock to bring the game within two. The was then delayed and later called due to lightning strike in the area.
Howard held a 14-8 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
Emery Simon received the nod at goalkeeper recording four saves.
Andres and Dunkwu led the offensive charge recording four and two shots on goal and combined for nine shots total.
Howard improved to 2-5-1 and will continue their non-conference road swing traveling to Radford, Virginia to face the 1-5-2 Big South foe Radford Highlanders Tuesday, October 1. The Bison is 0-3 since versus the Highlanders.
