WASHINGTON (September 19, 2019) – Howard University women's volleyball team returns to The District for a big weekend in preparation for conference play.
Friday (Sept. 20), Howard faces SEC foe Ole Miss inside The Burr. First-serve is set for 6 p.m. The next day (Sept. 21), the Bison host Big Ten opponent Rutgers at The Hilltop. Match time is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 22), HU wraps up the weekend at crosstown rival Georgetown. The action starts 1 p.m.

LAST TIMEOUT
On Sept. 13-14, HU went toe-to-toe with three of their toughest competition on the young season; however, unable to break through for a victory. Howard fell to Villanova, Yale and No. 20 USC in straight sets.

OLE MISS
Friday's clash will be the first meeting between the Rebels (6-3) and Howard. Over the weekend (Sept. 13-14), Ole Miss picked up its second-straight tournament title and improved its win streak to six after sweeping the Central Arkansas Classic, defeating Little Rock, 3-0, Oral Roberts, 3-1, and Central Arkansas, 3-2. Senior Nayo Warnell went on to claim Tournament MVP honors and earn SEC Offensive Player of the Week.
RUTGERS
Before coming to The Burr, the Scarlett Knights (6-3) visit crosstown foe American Friday (Sept. 20). After starting 0-3, Rutgers has won two tournaments in a row, six straight matches and 12 consecutive sets for its longest winning streak since 2012. Nationally, the squad comes in eighth overall in blocks per set (3.03).
GEORGETOWN
Before hosting the Bison, Georgetown (6-4) will hold the 2019 Hoya Invitational (Sept. 20-21) where they will face Binghamton, Florida International and conference foe Morgan State. Currently, the Hoyas are riding a three-match winning streak after winning the 2019 Colonial Classic, knocking off Iona, UNC Greensboro and William & Mary in straight sets. Senior outside hitter Iva Vujosevic was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts.
PROMOTIONS
Friday night's promotion is Freshmen Appreciation Night where all freshmen who attend the women's volleyball match against the Rebels will receive a free ticket to Howard's first home football game against Bethune-Cookman (Sept. 28). Doors open at 5 p.m.
UPCOMING SEASON
Howard opens league play on the road in Florida where Bethune-Cookman (Sept. 27) and Florida A&M (Sept. 29) await. Friday's showdown with the Wildcats start at 6 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. serve time against the Rattlers.
