ANNAPOLIS, Md. (September 17, 2019) – Howard University women's soccer team saw its two-match winning streak come to an end after a 3-0 loss at Navy.

With the setback, HU dropped to 3-2 while the Mids improved to 8-1 on the year and extend their winning streak to seven.

"Tough result today, said Howard women's soccer head coach
Brent Leiba. "We conceded goals from critical mistakes that we must eliminate as we head into conference play."

Navy jumped out to an early lead after Kaitlyn McKeown found Gracie Checkan for the contest's first goal.

After intermission, the Mids doubled its advantage with another assist from McKeown, this time, finding Baseley McClaskey, 2-0.

Navy added an insurance goal at the 73-minute mark, thanks to Victoria Tran.

Senior goalkeeper
Alayah Hightower (Largo, Md.) registered a match-best five saves in the loss.

Sophomores
Thalia Boucher (Toronto, Canada) and
Victoria Thornton (Plainfield, Ill.) each took a pair of shots.

"There are still a lot of positives that we can take away from our nonconference portion of the schedule," Leiba ended. "We have played well, and this is best we have done result wise heading into conference play. We have a good break in between games and [we] look to take advantage of the time to get healthy and improve on our foundation."

After more than a week off, Howard returns to the field in Birmingham, Ala., where they will take on Jackson State (Sept. 27) and Southern (Sept. 29) in league play. Friday's clash with the Tigers starts 8:30 p.m. (ET), followed by Sunday match versus the Jaguars at noon (ET)
