Howard Women’s Soccer Visits Longwood for First Road Test of the Season

Bison seeking 2-0 start against Lancers

WASHINGTON (September 1, 2019) – Howard University Women's Soccer hits the road for its first road test of the season when they visit Longwood (LU) Monday night (Sept. 2). Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.

Friday (Aug. 30), the Bison opened its 2019 campaign with an overtime victory over Mount St. Mary's, 1-0, at Greene Stadium. With the win, HU secured its first season opening victory since 2016.
 
At the 94-minute mark, sophomore forward Arianna Morgan (Oklahoma City) scored the match-winning goal off the goalie's deflection to propel Howard to victory.

Tuesday (Aug. 27), the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) unveiled its women's soccer weekly honors where senior Alayah Hightower (Largo, Md.) earned the league's goalkeeper of the week award.
 
Hightower, 2019 SWAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, faced nine shots in 94:07 minutes played while collecting four saves in a 1-0 overtime shutout victory over Mount St. Mary's (Md.).
 
LONGWOOD
 
Despite dropping the first two matches against VCU, 5-1, and Charlotte, 2-0, LU enters Monday's showdown picked third in the 2019 Big South Preseason Coaches Poll.
 
Longwood (0-2) returns a veteran cast, featuring 19 letterwinners and seven starters. Two-time All-Big South honoree Emilie Kupsov leads the Lancers, followed by former Big South Freshman of the Year Carrie Reaver.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Howard begins a three-match homestand inside Greene Stadium, starting Friday (Sept. 6) against Robert Morris. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
