SEASON PREVIEW
On July 18, Howard unveiled its 17-match challenging regular season schedule, featuring seven contests at Greene Stadium.
"We're looking for a big year," said Howard Men's Soccer head coach
Phillip Gyau. "We have the right combination to make a deep run. This is the Year of Return."
Nearly a month later (Aug. 13), the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) uncovered its 2019 preseason poll and honors where Howard University senior goalkeeper
Carlos Caro (Silver Spring, Md.) was recognized among the league's best.
A year ago, Caro was named to the 2018 SBC All-Conference Second Team after posting a pair of shutouts. Nationally, the Maryland native finished 10th overall in saves per match (5.2) and top 25 in total saves (78). He ended his junior campaign with a season-high 10 saves against Coastal Carolina in the Sun Belt Quarterfinals, which earned his SBC All-Tournament honors.
MATCHUP PREVIEW
Entering the season, Longwood was projected to finish sixth in the Big South. A year ago, the Lancers went 5-13-1 (3-5-1 Big South).
In the offseason, Longwood added 12 newcomers to the program, bringing in a diverse group representing four different states across the United States and six countries across the globe.
The 12-player class is composed of a pair of transfers and 10 freshmen, as they look to replace four Lancers that started five or more games a season ago.
UPCOMING SEASON
Howard returns to action for a pair of home matches against Mount St. Mary's (Md.) (Sept. 10) and Brown (Sept. 12). Both contests start at 3 p.m. at Greene Stadium.
