TOWSON, Md. – Howard University softball (10-20, 3-1 MEAC) dropped Tuesday's doubleheader to Towson University (18-19, 3-6 CAA). Howard suffered a 7-2 loss in game one and a 6-4 loss in game two.
The Bison were shutout by the Tigers in the first six innings. A home run at the top of the seventh by
Kalita Dennis put the Bison on the board. The Bison were able to get another point with
Sienna Herrera walking.
Maxie Harrington advanced to second while
Alannah Baiyina went to third, allowing
Camille Navarro to score.
In game two, Howard regrouped with a vengeance. The Tigers were on the board first with a home run by Madison Wilson and a double that brought in Julia Smith-Harrington. The Bison responded in the top of the second when Harrington singled, advancing
Jackie Jones to third and
Trinity Gibbs scoring.
Leading 2-1 going into the bottom of the second, the Tigers' Julia Jackson advanced Lindsey Toneygay. Once again the Bison answered with its most successful inning of the day. A double by Dennis set the Bison up for three runs at the top of the third. Howard's 4-3 lead was not enough to hold off Towson. The Tigers' Nicole Stockinger hit a home run that saw Smith-Harrington crossing the plate to give Towson a 5-4 lead.
The Bison were unable to score for the remainder of the game while the Tigers scored again. The second game concluded with Howard taking a 6-4 loss.
The Bison head back to the mound this weekend when they host conference opponent, Morgan State University. The three-game series will begin with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 13. The final game in the series against the Bears is scheduled for Sunday, April 14 at noon. The softball team will recognize its seniors for their contributions before the start of the game.
