WASHINGTON (March 6, 2019) – Howard University women's lacrosse team fell on the road at crosstown foe American (AU), 19-3, at the William | Jacobs Recreational Complex.
AU (3-3) took control early, tallying 14 first half goals, but HU fought back after intermission, scoring three times.
Sophomores
Jillian Jones (Fresno, Calif.) and
Lailah Robey (Chesapeake Beach, Md.) each recorded their first goals of the season.
After the break, HU was the aggressors, outshooting American, 12-10.
At the 18:25 mark in the second period, junior
Alayah Hightower (Hanover, Md.) found Robey for the squad's first goal.
Jones and newcomer
Sydney Saunders (Baltimore) scored unassisted goals in the final five minutes.
Howard also won the ground balls, 15-14, led by sophomore
Tiffany Hunt (Bridgewater, N.J.) with a match-high five GBs.
Defensively, freshman
Andrea Fievre (Snellville, Ga.) stopped seven shots in a losing effort.
For American, eight Eagles scored, led by Leah Brennan with a match-best five goals in the victory.
On March 15, HU continues its road trip in Dover, Del. where they face the Delaware State Lady Hornets. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
