Howard vs. University of Texas Tyler

The Howard University men's tennis team competed against the University of Texas at Tyler on Monday. The Bison were led by sophomore Roger Lyn and senior Karim Shokier. Lyn and Shokeir played in doubles, winning 6-3 over the Patriots.

Lyn also defeated Michael Apple, in the first singles set, 6-1, 6-1. Apple is the Patriots top player.

The Patriots took the remaining matches in both singles and doubles. Kyle Martin forced a tiebreaker in the third set. The Patriots' Jose Currea earned the match with his 11-9 win. The Bison fell to 0-5 while the Patriots improved to 2-4.

Howard vs. Xavier
Howard men's tennis saw another strong performance by Roger Lyn in their, 6-1, loss to Xavier. Howard's record drops to 0-6. Xavier improved to 5-11 on the season.  

Lyn's win over the Patriots top player, Brett Winter, gave the Bison their only point. The 4-6, 6-1, 14-12 victory came in the No. 1 spot. 

In doubles, Lyn and Karim Shokeir were leading, 5-4, in the No. 1 spot when the point was decided.

Howard was unsuccessful against the Muskateers in the other sets.

The Bison finish their spring break matches on Thursday, March 14 against Fairleigh Dickinson. First serve is scheduled for 12 p.m.
