@HowardBison_WBB Takes Momentum to Florida A&M

WASHINGTON (February 72019) --- The Howard University women's basketball team travels to Tallahassee, Florida, to face the Florida A&M Rattlers on Saturday. Game time is set for 2 p.m.

LAST TIMEOUT
Howard defeated Norfolk State at home, 74-70 on Saturday, handing the Spartans just their second conference loss of the season. Despite the close affair, the Bison never trailed after halftime.
Sarah Edmond, Jayla Thornton and Ayonna Williams each scored double figures for the Bison, with Edmond leading all scorers with 21 points. Thornton connected on four three-point field goals, while Williams dished out nine assists. Imani Bryant led the rebound department, grabbing 10 boards for Howard.

With the win, the Bison improved to 5-3 within the conference and 12-9 overall. They are now fourth in the conference. The Bison are one position ahead of Bethune-Cookman in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) standings.

GAME PREVIEW
The Bison and the Rattlers will face off for the second time this season. Howard won the first meeting on their home floor, 74-68 on January 5. Since that defeat, the Rattlers have lost seven out of their eight games, including a loss in their most recent game to North Carolina Central. They currently fall at the bottom of the MEAC standings with a 1-8 conference record, and a 3-18 record overall.

"We are continuously talking to the team about having a defensive mindset each game. I think the focus is to stay consistent in how we defend, understand the scouting report and have good execution," said head coach Ty Grace. "We understand at this time of the year we want to be playing good basketball.  Every game is going to be a tough game, no matter where the opponent falls in the conference. Bethune and FAMU won't be any different in that regard. They are two solid teams and we'll be ready."

While the Bison lead the conference in scoring at 71.7 points per game, the Rattlers rank last with 50.7 points per game. The Rattlers' greatest success comes on the defensive end, where opponents are shooting just .384 from the field.
Freshman guard Mya Moye leads the Rattlers in scoring, averaging 11.5 points per game, following by Candice Williams, who scores 9.6 points per contest.

Scouting the Wildcats
The Wildcats are 8-2 at home this season after recently defeating Norfolk State, 65-58. Senior Angel Golden is the leading scorer, averaging 19 points per game. Golden currently has 75 wins in her playing career, the most for any BCU Division I basketball player. In their last meetup, BCU lost to Howard, 61-40.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
The Bison will stay in Florida to play the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on February 11 at 5:30 p.m.
