Washington, DC (February 3, 2019) - Howard University women's tennis won four of six singles matches and one doubles match to narrowly defeat Mount St. Mary's yesterday in a 4-3 victory. The Bison improved to 1-2 with the victory. Seniors Nicole Hutchison and Christina Joynes led the Bison with their doubles and singles win.

In doubles competition, Howard started and finished with a loss but  earned a win in the number two flight. Nicole Hutchison and Christina Joynes defeated Megan Smith and Emma Blake, 6-4, in the set. The Mountaineers took flights one and three to gain the doubles point. Kendall Addison and Yassmine Khiri dropped the first flight, 6-1. In the third flight, Kindha Nasef and Aria Ragas were up 5-1 before Mia Pittman and Taylor Cook made a comeback in the tie-breaker set to win, 7-6.

Howard showed up in great fashion for the singles competition. The Bison won flights two, three, five and six. Hutchinson downed Hannah Davis in flight two, 7-6, 6-2. Kindha Nasef  dominated Smith in flight three and Aria Ragas overpowered Blake in flight six. Both sets ended, 6-2, 6-2. Christina Joynes rallied over Mia Pittman for a 6-3, 7-5 win.

The Mountaineers are now 0-2 on their season.

The Bison will travel to Annapolis, Maryland for a match on Saturday, February 9 against Fairleigh Dickinson University. Start time is at 8:00 p.m.
