Washington, DC (February 3, 2019) - The Howard University men's tennis team dropped its season opener, 6-1, to Mount St. Mary yesterday.
Roger Lyn and
Karim Shokeir picked up a doubles victory in the first flight. Lyn scored the Bison's only singles win in the number one flight.
With the loss, Howard begins the season 0-1 while Mount St. Mary's improves to 1-3.
Lyn and Shokeir topped the Mountaineers' Alonso Garcia and Gabriel Santos, 7-6. The Bison dropped the doubles point after
Cole Gittens and
Sagar Raju were defeated by Jean Armstrong and Evan Hines, 6-2, in the second flight. In flight three,
Kyle Martin and
Devaughn Blackburn fell to Chris Lindsey and Parth Sharma, 6-4.
In the singles competition, Lyn's 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win over Sharma contributed to the Bison avoiding a shutout by the Mountaineers. The Mountaineers prevailed in the remaining singles flights.
Howard men's tennis team continued its weekend matches with a Sunday contest against Navy.
