Howard Women’s Basketball Returns Home to Face Aggies, Eagles


WASHINGTON-- The Howard University women's basketball team faces off against the North Carolina A&T Aggies on Saturday. Game time is set for 2 p.m. in Burr Gymnasium.

LAST TIMEOUT
Howard dropped to 13-10 overall and 6-4 in conference play after losing on the road to Bethune-Cookman, 76-63.

The Bison led 17-11 after the first period but were outscored in each of the next three quarters. They shot just 30.9 percent from the field and 15.4 percent from beyond the arc. Since the start of conference play in January, Monday's loss marked just the third time in 10 games that the Bison scored fewer than 70 points.

Ayonna Williams and Sarah Edmond were the lone Bison to reach double figures in points with 21 and 10, respectively. Krislyn Marsh and Imani Bryant led the rebounding department with nine boards.

GAME PREVIEW
Challenging the fifth-ranked Bison in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will be the top-seed Aggies. The Aggies have an undefeated record through 10 conference games this year, with a 13-10 record overall.

Saturday's matchup will feature the conference's best offense against its best defense. While Howard leads the conference in scoring (71.7 points per game), the Aggies allow the fewest point total to their opponents (54.5 points allowed per game). These two teams rank second and third in the conference in scoring margin, with the Aggies holding the slight advantage at +4.2 points, compared to +4.0 points for the Bison.

C'coriea Foy and Cinia McCray lead the Aggies in scoring, averaging 12.8 points and 12.6 points, respectively. Sarah Edmond (16.2 ppg), Jayla Thornton (12.7 ppg), Ayonna Williams (11 ppg) and Krislyn Marsh (10.4 ppg) are the four Bison averaging double figures for the season.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
The Bison struggled with turnovers and came up short, 63-58, to the NC A&T Aggies in a MEAC matchup at Burr Gym on Saturday. Ayonna Williams led the way with a game-high 22 points, three rebounds, and four assists. Johnson added nine points, four rebounds, and two assists.

Eagles sophomore Kieche White led the North Carolina Central University women's basketball team with 13 points and five assists in a 62-48 MEAC road loss at Norfolk State University.
 
The Spartans held the Eagles to 27.5-percent shooting percentage and outrebounded them, 49-40.

On Saturday, HU Athletics will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day. All girls in an athletic jersey to the women's basketball game for a $1 entry fee. Groups or teams visiting without jerseys are welcomed at the $5 group rate. Throughout the women's game, teams or groups present will be acknowledged on the video board and girls in jerseys will be acknowledged on the Bison Cam. There will be giveaways and entertainment for participants to enjoy.

Monday, the Department of Athletics will host Organization Night. 

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
The Bison start their remaining road schedule with games coming up in Baltimore. They will face Coppin State on February 23 and Morgan State on February 25.
