WASHINGTON (February 12, 2019) – Sophomores
RJ Cole (Union, N.J.) and
Jessika Gbai (Philadelphia) were selected Howard University Bison of the Month, sponsored by Kimpton Carlyle Hotel Dupont Circle and Kimpton Glover Park Hotel, for their incredible performances in January. The announcement came Tuesday evening.
Men's Basketball - RJ Cole - Sophomore - Union, N.J.
On Jan. 9, Cole was named to the Lou Henson Award Midseason Watch list, given to the top mid major player in D-1 college basketball. For the month of January, he averaged 19.3 points, 5.8 assists, and 3.5 rebounds while shooting a respectable 45-percent (45-of-101) from the field.
Track & Field - Jessika Gbai - Sophomore - Philadelphia, Pa.
Gbai won the 200-meter dash twice in January at the Father Diamond Invitational (Jan. 5) and HBCU Battle (Jan. 11). Additionally, the Philadelphia native qualified for the MEAC and ECAC Indoor Championships.
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
Alexander Barnes (Men's Swimming & Diving): Barnes claimed his second victory of the year in a multi-team meet with a season-best time (51.61) in the men's 100-yard Butterfly.
Ashton Daniel (Men's Track & Field): At the Father Diamond Invitational, Daniel became the eighth Bison to qualify for the 2019 MEAC Indoor Championships after registering a 6.95 time in the 60-meter dash.
KaSandra Kaplan (Women's Swimming & Diving): Kaplan racked up victories in the women's 100 and 200 Butterfly with a season-best in the 100 fly (59.33) and 200 fly (2:14.21).
Ayonna Williams (Women's Basketball): Williams averaged 14.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists while recording two 20-point performances.
