ZACHARY, 
La. – A 4-3 walk-off win over Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference southern-division foe, North Carolina Central, secured win number one for the 2019 Howard Bison softball team, as well as etching head coach 
Tori Tyson's first career victory into the books.   
 
"Earning my first career win as a head coach was very special," Tyson said. "Seeing the hard work the student-athletes and coaching staff have put in, payoff, truly was a jubilant moment. The future is very bright for Howard softball."
 
The Eagles held a 3-0 lead early before the Bison scored four unanswered runs to capture the non-conference win over the 2018 MEAC tournament semifinalists.
 
A 
Rajaa Wilcox single up the middle turned into a run after a sac bunt from 
Jackie Jones in the bottom of the third, followed by a 
Camille Navarro single and run in the bottom of the fourth.  
Trinity Gibbs walked with one out in the fourth, before a two-out triple to left center from 
Sienna Herrera scored Gibbs, knotting the score at three.
 
After two scoreless innings, the Bison used their final inning to pull ahead of NCCU for the victory in walk-off fashion. A single from 
Ayana Sallee with bases loaded sealed the win as 
Zaria Hall crossed the plate.
 
HU outhit the Eagles 8-to-5 during the morning match-up, while 
Mackenzi Steele collected her first win of the season with four strikeouts and only allowing one earned run.
 
During the final game in Louisiana, the Bison dropped a 10-1 decision to Southwestern Athletic Conference opponent, Alabama State University.
 
HU and ASU each collected nine hits during the Bison setback.
 
Howard softball returns to action Feb. 15-17 as the Bison travel to Wilmington, N.C., for the UNCW Invitational.
