Howard Men's Track & Field Places Fourth at the Cappy Anderson Invite

Young Bison show promise in season opener

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (December 7, 2019) – Howard University men's track & field team opened its indoor season with a fourth-place finish at the Eastern Shore Cappy Anderson Invitational, hosted by Maryland Eastern Shore.

The young Bison showed promise in their season opener, scoring 91 points overall.

"Overall, as a staff, we are extremely happy with how today went," said Howard Director of Track and Field David Oliver. "This ice breaker meet at Maryland Eastern Shore is always a good opportunity for the entire group to get a chance to go out and compete after all these weeks of training."

On the day, several Bison qualified for the 2020 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Indoor Championships in Landover, Md.

The sophomore trio of KiShaun Carter (Brick, N.J.), Darian Clyburn (Louisville, Ky.) and Kameron Davis (Miami) headline the afternoon, each qualifying in the men's 60-meter hurdles.

"We got several personal bests and MEAC Indoor Championship qualifiers [after today's meet]," Director Oliver continued. "Newcomers Darian Clyburn and Kameron Davis represented extremely well in the 60-meter hurdles. Everyone is healthy, hungry and excited to get back out and compete again."

Clyburn won the event, clocking in at 8.08, followed by Davis with an 8.12 mark. Carter earned fifth overall, recording an 8:50 time.

Other notable performances on the track included sophomore Gavin Williams (Dover, Del.) winning the mile run (4:34.79) and fellow classmate Ayoade Adebiyi (Virginia Beach, Va.) placing second in the men's 5000-meter run (16:27.26).

In the field, sophomore thrower Michael Codrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.) qualified in the men's weight throw after tossing nearly 50 feet (15.16 meters; 49'9"). Freshman Nnamdi Olebara (Bowie, Md.) finished runner-up in the shot put, throwing over 46 feet (14.16 meters; 46'5.5").
