WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Howard University men's basketball could not overcome the University of Pennsylvania's (UPenn) hot perimeter shooting, falling to the Quakers 81-62 Monday night in the final game of 2019.
UPenn connected on 14 three-point shots, shooting 35 percent from long range to keep Howard from gaining true momentum.
Howard made a final push in the middle of the second quarter down 53-33.
Nate Garvey got the run started with a lay-up, then forced a turnover that was later converted to a long-range jumper by
Kyle Foster to cut the lead, 38-53 with 11-minutes left in regulation. Garvey and Foster connected on a pair of jumpers from beyond the arc to bring the game to within nine with 9-minutes left.
After a Penn timeout, the Quakers went on a 19-7 run in a five-minute span, connecting on five three-pointers to put the game out of reach.
Howard shot 47 percent from beyond the arc ( 8-of-17). Howard outrebounded Penn 39-36.
Charles 'CJ' Williams paced the Bison with a team-high 16 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season. Three other Bison joined him in double-figures, Wayne Bristol, Jr. (13),
Kyle Foster (11),
Nate Garvey (11).
