Howard Women’s Basketball Set to Play a Pair of Nonconference Matchups

Bison looking to build momentum before league play

WASHINGTON (December 13, 2019) – Howard University women's basketball team continues its season with a pair of nonconference matchups.
 
Saturday (Dec. 14), HU wraps up its brief two-game homestand versus Niagara. Tipoff is slated for 4 p.m. inside The Burr.
 
Two nights later (Dec. 16), the Bison begin a four-game road swing in Greenville, N.C., where the East Carolina (ECU) Pirates await. The action starts 7 p.m.

LAST TIMEOUT
 
Saturday (Dec. 7), the Bison took down Fairleigh Dickinson, 64-56, in their return to The Burr.
 
Four Bison reached double figures, led by senior guard Ayonna Williams (Washington) with a game-high 17 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the charity stripe.
 
MATCHUP PREVIEWS
 
HOWARD
 
HU (5-4) looks to build momentum before entering conference play at Maryland Eastern Shore (Jan. 4). After Saturday's showdown with Niagara, the Bison finish nonconference at East Carolina (Dec. 16), at George Mason (Dec. 21) and at Tennessee (Dec. 29).
 
This season, Howard ranks among the conference leaders in several categories, including field goal percentage (3rd), three-point percentage (2nd), blocks (2nd) and assists (t-3rd).
 
NIAGARA
 
Niagara (1-6) looks to get back into the win column after suffering a 72-85 loss at Colgate (Dec. 1). With nearly two weeks away from the hardwood, the Purple Eagles are looking to gain momentum before league play at Rider (Jan. 2).
 
The trio of Jai Moore (14.1 ppg), Maggie McIntyre (10.9 ppg) and Adia Brisker (9.6 ppg) spearhead the Purple Eagles attack.
 
EAST CAROLINA
 
ECU (3-6) enters Monday's clash wrapping up a three-game road trip. The squad opened with a 64-61 win at Longwood, but dropped the final two contests at Wake Forest, 53-76, and at Liberty, 66-81.
 
Lashonda Monk (15.8 ppg) and Taniyah Thompson (11.9 ppg) provide the one-two punch for the Pirates.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
HU continues its road swing in Fairfax, Va., when the George Mason Patriots come calling. Tipoff is set for noon.
