NORFOLK, Va. (November 19, 2019) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) uncovered its 2019 women's volleyball postseason honors where Howard University saw three Bison receive recognition. The announcement came Tuesday afternoon.
 
Freshman Tamar Wells (Apopka, Fla.) highlighted the afternoon after being named 2019 MEAC Rookie of the Year. Senior Kira Porter (Lake Tahoe, Nev.) earned All-MEAC First Team honors while third-year outside hitter Jurnee Tipton (Ypsilanti, Mich.) made the All-MEAC Second Team.
 
Wells had a stellar first season as a Bison, leading the squad with 80 total blocks (22 solo). The MEAC All-Rookie selection also ranked top 10 in the league in hitting percentage (.281) and blocks (0.80) while recording five double-digit kill performances.
 
After being named to the 2019 MEAC Preseason Team, Porter solidified herself as one of the top players in the conference. She led the conference in hitting percentage (.377) while finishing in the top 75 nationally.
 
Tipton ended the regular season leading the Bison in total kills (243) and kills per set (2.56). Additionally, the Michigan product registered five double-doubles on the season, including 12 digs and 10 kills at No. 20 USC.
 
Morgan State's Zoe McBride and North Carolina A&T State's Edie Brewer shared this year's MEAC Player of the Year honors while the Aggies' Hal Clifton claimed the league's coach of the year award.

Howard's quest for their fifth consecutive MEAC title begins Friday (Nov. 22) when they take on No. 4 (southern division) South Carolina State. The action starts at 2 p.m. inside Burr Gymnasium.

On Nov. 22-24, the 2019 MEAC Volleyball Championship will be held inside Burr Gymnasium. Competition begins Friday (Nov. 22) at 11 a.m. with the first of four quarterfinal matches. Saturday's (Nov. 23) semifinals start at 5 p.m., and Sunday's (Nov. 24) championship finale gets underway at 8 p.m. and broadcast live on ESPNU and ESPN3.
 
Admission for the tournament is $10 each day and $25 for all three days.
