Howard Volleyball Continues Road Swing at Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore

Bison look to remain undefeated in league play

WASHINGTON (October 3, 2019) – Howard University women's volleyball team continues its road swing with a pair of league matches at Delaware State (Oct. 4) and Maryland Eastern Shore (Oct. 6). Friday's clash with the Hornets starts 6 p.m. and Sunday's contest against the Hawks begins at 3 p.m.

HU started league play with back-to-back victories in Florida.
 
Friday (Sept. 27), the Bison opened Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play with a four-set victory over Bethune-Cookman (20-25, 28-26, 25-19, 25-18) inside Historic Moore Gymnasium.
 
Two days later (Sept. 29), Howard overcame an early deficit to rally and knock off Florida A&M in four (22-25, 25-11, 25-16, 25-23) at the Al Lawson Center.

HOWARD
 
Howard (5-11, 2-0 MEAC) enters the weekend looking to remain unbeaten in league play. HU wraps up its three-match road swing before hosting five straight matches inside The Burr, starting Tuesday (Oct. 8).
 
HU leads the MEAC in assists per set (11.45) ad kills per set (12.36), led by senior Kira Porter (Lake Tahoe, Nev.) posting a league-leading .366 hitting percentage. Freshmen setters Semira Blair (Fort Worth, Texas) and Kayla Diaz (Nanuet, N.Y.) round out the conference in assists per set.
 
DELAWARE STATE
 
Last weekend, the Hornets (6-10, 1-1 MEAC) split their first two MEAC matches of the season, including a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Morgan State Sunday (Sept. 29).
 
Individually, Delaware State's freshman Sydney Lewis is third in the MEAC with a .336 hitting percentage while graduate Sydney Armbrister is fifth at .279.
 
MARYLAND EASTERN SHORE
 
After opening the season with a 2-2 mark, Maryland Eastern Shore (5-12, 0-2 MEAC) has dropped 10 out of 13, including contests against rivals Morgan State, 3-2, and Coppin State, 3-1.
 
Entering the weekend, Eastern Shore tops the league in blocks per set (2.01) and services aces per set (2.15).
 
UPCOMING SEASON
 
Tuesday (Oct. 8), Howard returns home where Beltway rival Morgan State awaits. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m. inside Burr Gymnasium.
