NORFOLK, Va. (October 28, 2019) – The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) revealed its women's volleyball weekly honors where Howard University senior
Kira Porter (Lake Tahoe, Nev.) earned the league's top award. The announcement came Monday afternoon.
The Nevada native won MEAC Player of the Week after helping HU remain unbeaten in conference play with five-set victories over North Carolina Central (Oct. 25) and North Carolina A&T State (Oct. 27). For the week, Porter recorded a .475 hitting percentage, including .611 against the Aggies. She also racked up 12 kills, three service aces and a pair of blocks in the win.
North Carolina A&T State's Mallory Porcher (MEAC Rookie of the Week) and Shaylynn Hall (MEAC Defensive Specialist of the Week) earned accolades while Delaware State Freja Gortz was named MEAC Setter of the Week.
Other notable Bison performances included freshmen
Semira Blair (Fort Worth, Texas) and
Tamar Wells (Apopka, Fla.).

This weekend, Howard goes to Baltimore for a pair of rematches.
Friday (Nov. 1), HU takes on Morgan State at 6 p.m., followed by a short trip to Coppin State (Sunday). Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
