Another busy week in HU Athletics!
MEN'S BASKETBALL
The Howard University men's basketball team finished their week going 1-1.
They beat South Carolina State Saturday (Jan. 19) in overtime, 71-67, led by sophomore
RJ Cole (Union, N.J.) with a game-high 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-7 from long range.
HU fell, 84-71, to Harvard Monday (Jan. 21) on MLK Day. Freshman
Raymond Bethea, Jr. (Atlantic City, N.J.) netted 12 points off the bench, knocking down four three pointers in the loss.
The Bison look to rebound when they host Delaware State Saturday (Jan. 26) and Maryland-Eastern Shore Monday (Jan. 28). Saturday's tip-off is set for 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Monday. The game against Maryland Eastern Shore will be televised on ESPNU.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Howard University women's basketball team fell to South Carolina State, 72-63, Saturday (Jan. 19). Freshman
Krislyn Marsh (Duncanville, Texas) led the Bison with a team-high 16 points and eight rebounds.
Tuesday (Jan. 22), Marsh was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, presented by the U.S. Marines.
The Bison host Delaware State Saturday (Jan. 26) at 2 p.m. and Maryland Eastern Shore Monday (Jan. 28) at 4 p.m.
WOMEN'S BOWLING
On Jan. 18-20, the Howard University bowling team returned to action when they participate in the Kutztown Invitational, hosted by Kutztown, where they went 2-11 in the three-day tournament. Sophomore bowler
Carolyn Williams (Glen Burnie, Md.) rolled a 196 in five traditional matches.
On Feb. 15-17, HU returns to the lanes for the James Brown Invitational, hosted by Towson.
MEN'S TRACK & FIELD
Howard University men's track & field team finished 19
th in the NYC Gotham Cup (NYC) Friday (Jan. 18).
Several Bison set personal records, including freshman
Aariq Nixon (800-meter; 1:56.64), sophomore
Anthony Gordon (mile run; 4:27.92), and senior
David Hudson (shot put; 13.68m).
The Bison return to action when they participate in the National Open, hosted by Penn State. The two-day event starts Friday (Jan.25) and concludes Saturday (Jan. 26).
WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD
Friday (Jan. 18), the Howard University women's track & field team placed ninth in the NYC Gotham Cup.
Junior
Sydney Benson (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) became the latest Bison to qualify for the 2019 MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships after placing second overall in the women's 800-meter run with a season-best time (2:16.26).
