HU Women’s Basketball to Host Morgan on Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day

WASHINGTON (January 14, 2019) --- The Howard University women's basketball team (9-7, 2-1 MEAC) will host the Morgan State (4-13, 2-1 MEAC) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15.  The game was rescheduled from Monday  to Tuesday due to inclement weather.

Last Timeout
The Bison defeated the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on Saturday, ending the Wildcats' 18-game conference road winning streak. Junior Sarah Edmond led  the Bison with a game-high 25 points and eight rebounds. Classmate Ayonna Williams added 14 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.

Game Preview
The 9-7 Bison are looking to keep their victory momentum going into Tuesday's game against the Bears. In their last meeting, Howard won on the road at Morgan State, 68-61, inside the Hill Field House. With the victory, Howard improved to 5-4 in league play and moved past Morgan State in the MEAC standings. Howard scored 26 points off the bench, led by Jayla Thornton. Jayla Myles finished with a double-double, 11 points and 10 rebounds. Sarah Edmond added 10 points. Curstyn Moore added nine points and four rebounds in the win.

Howard is averaging 69.8 points per games. Three Bison are averaging double-digit points per game. Junior Sarah Edmond is at the top of the pack with 16.4 ppg, followed by Jayla Thornton with 13.4 ppg and freshman Krislyn Marsh with 10.5 ppg. Marsh is the team's rebound leader, averaging 8.1 rpg. Junior Ayonna Williams has the team's most steals with 29, followed by Sarah Edmond with 26.

The Bears recorded their first consecutive victory of the season when they defeated South Carolina State, 62-51. They had four players to score in double figures. Adre'onia Coleman led Morgan State with 17 points and eight rebounds. Ashia McCalla came off the bench to score 14 points and tied Coleman with a team-high eight rebounds. Jihayah Chavis and Kayla Horn each added 10 points. Coleman is the highest scoring player on the team and the only player averaging double-digits with 16.5 ppg.  She was recently named MEAC Player of the Week.

Morgan State is averaging 51.5 points per game, being outscored by their opponents who are averaging 63.6 ppg against the team. The Bears were picked to finish sixth in the preseason.
