Coppin State Slips by @HowardUniSB

Eagles wins pitching duel affair

BALTIMORE (May 2, 2018) – Coach Lauren McCoy and the Howard University Softball team saw its 2018 campaign come to an end after a tough 1-0 loss at Coppin State (CSU).

With the loss, HU witnessed its three-game winning streak come to a halt.

Both squads saw a pitching duel between HU's redshirt junior Mackenzi Steele and CSU's Madison Didion.

Collectively, both pitchers tossed 14 innings while striking out 21 batters.

Steele pitched seven innings with six Ks while allowing one run. On the other side, Didion outdueled the Virginia native with a complete-game shutout and 15 strikeouts.

Offensively, redshirt freshman Zaria Hall and newcomer Kaylen Samuel each produced a hit in the loss.

Bottom three, Coppin State's Patricia Soria delivered a RBI-triple to right center to bring home the go-ahead run.

For CSU (14-22, 10-8 MEAC), they clinched a spot in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tournament in Ormand Beach, Fla. Megan Narvaez led the Eagles' attack, going 2-of-3 with two doubles and a run scored.

Howard doubled its win total from a year ago with an 8-37 mark (6-12 MEAC).
