WASHINGTON (April 29, 2018) – Howard University Women's Lacrosse team were topped by the Kennesaw State Owls (KSU) in their season finale at Greene Stadium, 20-7.
Senior
Natia Warren played her final game for Howard, registering eight draw controls, five ground balls, and five goals. During halftime, the New Jersey native was honored for her hard work and dedication to the program and HU Athletics.
Warren ends her collegiate career as the school's all-time leader in draw controls while finishing fifth all-time in total goals, surpassing her former teammate Jaymie Cox.
Kennesaw State scored twice after intermission, but the Bison matched their efforts with a pair of goals from senior
Tahirah Williams and freshman
Lauryn Smith, 17-4.
After two more goals by the Owls, 19-4, Warren answered with three straight goals to finish her collegiate career.
Defensively, senior
Amerra Sheckles wrapped up her Bison career with eight saves. As a result, the Seattle native leaves her mark as the program's second all-time leader in total saves.
KSU opened the match with consecutive goals, but Warren sliced the margin in half nearly five minutes into the contest, 2-1.
From that point, the Owls tallied nine unanswered and took a commanding 11-1 advantage with more than 16 minutes remaining before intermission.
Warren ended HU's scoring drought with less than 14 minutes before halftime, but Kennesaw State responded with a 3-0 run to close out the period, 15-2.
Kennesaw State (7-10, 3-2 ASUN) moved into the third spot as they prepare for the Atlantic Sun Tournament. Abby Squires led the Owls with seven draw controls and four goals in the victory.
HU concludes its 2018 campaign 1-12 (0-5 ASUN).
