Bison Pursue Fourth Straight Win Versus Maryland Eastern Shore

Howard seeks to avenge loss against Hawks

WASHINGTON (February 11, 2018) – Coach Ty Grace and the Howard University Women's Basketball team seek their fourth straight victory when Maryland Eastern Shore comes to town. Monday's start time is set for 5:30 p.m. inside The Burr.

MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
On Jan. 27, HU fell on the road at Maryland Eastern Shore, 58-52, inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. Sophomore Jayla Myles led the way, posting her third straight double-double with 12 boards and 10 points while registering five blocks. Fellow classmate Ayonna Williams had a game-high 15 points on 50-percent (7-of-14) shooting in a losing effort.
 
Since then, the Bison (10-13, 6-4 MEAC) have won three straight, including a 68-61 victory against rival Hampton. Currently, Howard sits tied for fourth in the conference standings with Norfolk State. Sophomore Sarah Edmond leads the squad in scoring, averaging 13.3 points per contest, followed by Williams (9.2 ppg). Over the past three games, freshman sharpshooter Jayla Thornton, reigning Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week, is shooting 48-percent (12-of-25) from long range.
 
Maryland Eastern Shore (7-16, 4-7 MEAC) has lost two-out-of-three since their last meeting with the Bison, including a 73-61 decision at league-leading Bethune-Cookman. Freshman Bairesha Gill-Miles has won six MEAC Rookie of the Week honors while averaging a team-best 11.1 points per contest. The Kentucky product finished with a double-double (13 points and 10 boards) in the last meeting.
 
LAST TIMEOUT

Thursday (Feb. 8), the Bison used a strong fourth quarter to hold off the Hampton Lady Pirates, 68-63, in front of a raucous crowd at The Burr.
 
Howard was led by sophomore Asia McCants, scoring a career-high 16 points off the bench. Fellow classmate Imani Bryant also came off the bench, recording 11 boards and eight points in the win.
 
Williams filled the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

HU heads south for a pair of rematches against North Carolina A&T State (Feb. 17) and North Carolina Central (Feb. 19). Saturday's action begins 2 p.m. while Monday's clash starts 4 p.m.
