Howard seeks season sweep versus Maryland Eastern Shore

WASHINGTON (February 11, 2018) – After two tough losses, Coach Kevin Nickelberry and the Howard University Men's Basketball team look to get back on track when Maryland Eastern Shore comes to The Burr. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Fans can follow all the action via live stats and/or live video.

Monday's promotion is Coaches Versus Cancer.

MATCHUP PREVIEW

On Jan. 27, the Bison picked up its first conference road win at Maryland Eastern Shore, 85-75, inside the William P. Hytche Athletic Center. Freshman star RJ Cole led the way with a game-high 28 points, including 19 after intermission, while second-year guard Charles Williams chipped in 19 points. Newcomer Kyle Foster had 13 points off the bench, including 11 in the first half.

Since then, Howard has lost two-out-of-three, including a 95-81 decision versus rival Hampton (Feb. 8). HU seeks to break its two-game slide, but to have a chance, the Bison will need to stay out of foul trouble.

"The most important thing is not repeat what has been in the last couple games," Nickelberry stated. "I would love to ignore this, but this is a major factor. We only have 10 scholarship guys that dress and if you lose two or three, then you're down to seven or eight. If this formula of foul troubles continue, then we may struggle."

Cole (23.6 ppg) and Williams (19.7 ppg) lead the Bison attack, accounting for nearly 60-percent of the squad's points. Recently, the New Jersey native won his 10th league top rookie award while William eclipsed the 1,000-point mark. In the conference, both Bison sit first and third, respectively, in scoring.

Maryland Eastern Shore looks to rebound after a 20-point road loss at Bethune-Cookman (Feb. 10). Senior Logan McIntosh leads the squad in scoring (12.4 ppg) and assists (4.7 apg) while playing 35.4 minutes per contest, also a team-high. McIntosh and Miryne Thomas each finished with 17 points in the last meeting.

"We were able to stay out of foul trouble up there," Nickelberry continued. "Maryland Eastern Shore is a deep team. We need our core guys on the floor for us to have a chance, bottom line. We're just not a deep team with only 10 scholarship players. We have to adjust and keep our core guys on the floor."

LAST TIMEOUT

Last Thursday (Feb. 8), Howard took on rival Hampton in front of a sold-out crowd inside The Burr, but the Bison was unable to slow down the Pirates as they lost this round of the Battle of the Real HU, 95-81.

In the contest, Williams and Cole combined for 50 points. Cole finished with a game-best 27 points and six dimes while the Virginia native ended the night registering 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

HU heads south for a pair of rematches against North Carolina A&T State (Feb. 17) and North Carolina Central (Feb. 19). Saturday's action begins 4 p.m. while Monday's clash starts 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
