Howard Women’s Basketball Heads to Richmond for Saturday Matinee

December 7, 2018 --- The Howard University women's basketball team will continue their road trip with a matchup against the Richmond Spiders on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at the Robins Center.

Last Timeout
Howard defeated the Niagara Purple Eagles, 68-61, last Saturday to improve to a 5-2 record. With their victory, the Bison have a three-game winning streak and are off to their best start since the 2004-05 season.

Sophomore guard Jayla Thornton led the Bison in scoring with 19 points, connecting on five three-point field goals. Junior guard Sarah Edmond and freshman forward Krisyln Marsh also reached double figures with 10 points a piece.

Game Preview
The Spiders return home after spending their previous four games on the road. They are now 1-7 after dropping their most recent game to William & Mary, 65-55. The lone win for the Spiders this season came in their last home game, when they defeated Maryland Eastern Shore, 57-55.

The Spiders have tinkered with their starting five all season, posting six different starting lineups through their first eight games. The lone player to start all eight games for Richmond is sophomore guard Alex Parsons, who leads the team in scoring with 11.1 points per game.

The Spiders will be the third Atlantic 10 Conference (A-10) team to play the Bison this season. Howard won its first two games against A-10 opponents, with their victories against La Salle and George Mason earlier in the year.

Sarah Edmond leads the Bison in scoring with 18 points per game, having reached double figures in each of her first seven games of the year.

These two teams have not faced off since Dec. 21, 2005, when the Spiders won by a score of 78-70. Richmond has a 4-0 record against Howard.

Upcoming Schedule
The Bison will travel to Campbell University to face the Fighting Camels on December 13 at 11:30 a.m. For more information, visit the Howard Athletics website at www.HUBison.com.
