Four Bison acknowledged for their hard work and dedication

WASHINGTON (October 19, 2018) – Coach Phillip Gyau and the Howard University Men's Soccer team conclude its home slate when reigning Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Champions Coastal Carolina (CCU) comes calling. Match time is set for 5 p.m. at Greene Stadium.

Saturday's theme is Senior Night where Howard will honor four seniors for their dedication and service to HU Athletics: Joel Cunningham (Spanish Town, Jamaica); Victor Guirma (New Paltz, N.Y.); Joe Hawes (Princeton, N.J.); and Lloyd Pierre (Trinidad & Tobago).
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
On Oct. 13, the Bison came up short at Georgia State (GSU), 1-0, despite outshooting the GSU, 14-11.
 
Defensively, junior Carlos Caro (Silver Spring, Md.) registered four saves in a losing effort.
 
MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
ALL-TIME SERIES
 
Saturday's clash will be the sixth meeting between Howard and Coastal Carolina with the Chanticleers leading the all-time series, 4-1.
 
Last season, HU dropped two narrow losses against Coastal Carolina.
 
On Nov. 1, 2017, the Bison dropped a heartbreaker to CCU, 2-1, at Greene Stadium.
 
In the SBC Semifinals, the Chanticleers escaped with another 2-1 victory en route to another conference title. Junior Andres Gomez (Silver Spring, Md.) tied the contest at the 50-minute mark.
 
HOWARD
 
For HU (2-6-3, 0-2 SBC), they are seeking their first win in league play while sending their seniors out on a high note. Offensively, Guirma ranks among the conference leaders in multiple categories, including total goals (5) and points per game (1.0). Defensively, Caro anchors the back end with a league-leading 50 total saves on the season.
 
COASTAL CAROLINA
 
In his 21st season at Coastal Carolina (6-4, 0-1 SBC), head coach Shaun Docking has the Chanticleers are posed for another league title. After dropping their conference opener versus Appalachian State, 2-1, CCU rebounded with a 1-0 victory at Clemson. Before the season, Kervin Kenton Fadel, Sun Belt Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, and his teammates were picked to win the SBC Title.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
Howard wraps up the regular season with a pair of road matches, beginning Wednesday (Oct. 24) at St. Bonaventure. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
