MATCHUP PREVIEW
Saturday's clash will be the 102
nd meeting between HU and Maryland Eastern Shore with the Bison leading the all-time series, 59-42. A year ago, Howard took both games from the Hawks.
Howard (5-17, 2-4 MEAC) looks to grab its first true road win of the season (0-15) after going into OT in their last four out of five games (2-2).
"Maryland Eastern Shore on the road will be a huge challenge," Nickelberry stated. "We have competed on the road but have come up short. Hopefully, our recent success carries over this weekend."
Freshman guard
RJ Cole ranks sixth in the nation in scoring (23.4 ppg) while leading the conference with 6.0 assists per contest. Additionally, the New Jersey native has won Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Rookie of the Week eight straight times and nine overall. His 26-point, 4.0-rebound, 6.5-assists, 2.5-steal line from last weekend earned him CBS Sports' National Freshman of the Week, a first for any MEAC player.
Sophomore
Charles Williams, who is second behind Cole in scoring (20.0 ppg), is on pace to reach the 1,000-point club this season. Currently, the Virginia native has 970 points.
Maryland Eastern Shore (5-17, 1-6 MEAC) have suffered five single-digit losses in league play with their lone conference win coming against Hampton, 92-83. Senior Logan McIntosh leads the squad in scoring (11.9 ppg) and assists (4.8 apg) while playing 35.2 minutes per contest, also a team-high.
"Maryland Eastern Shore has played some close games against the upper echelon of the MEAC," Nickelberry added. "We will have to play our best basketball to earn our first league road win."
