SAVANNAH, Ga. (January 15, 2018) – Coach
Ty Grace and the Howard University Women's Basketball team netted a season-high 87 points as they rolled past Savannah State (SSU), 87-59, inside Tiger Arena.
With the victory, HU women secured back-to-back road wins for the first time this season.
Howard (6-11, 2-2 MEAC) shot 50-percent (35-of-70) from the floor while registering a season-high 24 assists. HU also knocked down 11 trey balls in the victory.
Eleven Bison scored in the contest, led by freshman
Curstyn Moore with a game-high 19 points. Sophomore
Ayonna Williams filled the stat sheet, finishing with 15 points, eight boards, six assists, and four steals in the win.
Moore's layup extended HU's advantage to 22 points, 60-38, with 3:12 remaining in the third. After three, Howard held a commanding 64-44 lead.
In the fourth, HU kept the pressure on as they outscored the Tigers, 23-15.

Jayla Thornton each registered 12 points.
Defensively, the Bison racked up 12 steals and nine blocks while holding the Tigers to only 30-percent (21-of-70) from the field. Sophomore

Tajzhane Dopson posted two blocks apiece.
Howard opened the contest on an 11-4 run, capped off by Myles' fast break layup, 11-4. SSU answered with a 13-6 run and closed the gap to within one, 18-17, at the 1:55 mark in the first. After one, the Bison held a three-point advantage, 22-19.
Midway through the second, SSU's Kaylee Allen connected on a jumper and trimmed Howard's lead down to one, 30-29. HU responded and finished the half on a 15-3 spurt and took a 13-point advantage into the break, 45-32.
For Savannah State (2-13, 0-4 MEAC), Allen was the lone Tiger to reach double-figures with 17 points.
HU returns to The Burr where North Carolina Central (Jan. 20) and North Carolina A&T State (Jan. 22) await.
Saturday's showdown versus the Lady Eagles start 2 p.m. whereas Monday's clash begins 5:30 p.m.
