Volleyball Travels To Virginia For Jefferson Cup

Bison look to get back on track in Virginia

WASHINGTON (September 7, 2017) – Howard Volleyball continues its road swing in Virginia for the Jefferson Cup where Ohio, Virginia Commonwealth (VCU), and host team Virginia (UVA) awaits.

Tomorrow (Sept. 8), HU begins the tourney against Ohio at 4 p.m. On Saturday (Sept. 9), the Bison take on UVA at 11:30 a.m.; followed by VCU at 5 p.m.

Fans will have the opportunity to follow all the action via Live Stats.

LAST TIMEOUT
 
Last weekend (Sept. 1-2), Howard was unable to pick up a victory at the Fullerton Classic.
 
In the tournament opener, HU lost its five-set match against Southern Utah (20-25, 25-11, 29-31, 25-23, 15-17).Khaila Donaldson posted a double-double with 20 kills and 14 digs in the loss.
 
The next day (Sept. 2), the squad fell in straight sets against the San Jose State Trojans, (21-25, 21-25, 16-25), at Titan Gym. Donaldson and Kira Porter each registered seven kills in a losing effort.
 
That night, the Bison fell against UC-Riverside in three (16-25, 18-25, 15-25). Tamia Dockery recorded a double-double, posting 26 assists and 11 digs.
 
MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
After winning their first three matches, Ohio (5-3) has dropped three-of-their-five matches. Before the season, the Bobcats were predicted to finish third in the MAC East behind Miami (Ohio) and Kent State.
 
UVA comes in splitting their first six contests (3-3). In the ACC Preseason Volleyball Coaches Poll, the Cavaliers are projected to finish 13th overall after scoring 50 points.
 
VCU (6-2) enters the event as the hottest team, winning three-in-a-row. In the A-10's preseason poll, the Rams were predicted to take second behind Dayton after receiving a first-place vote.
 
With the conference opener three weeks away, HU (1-6) looks to get back on track. In the league, Howard is second in hitting percentage (.193). Donaldson continues to spearheads the Bison attack with 97 total kills.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Next weekend (Sept.15-16), HU returns to the Nation's Capital where they will host Iowa, Princeton, and American in the D.C. Classic.
