Volleyball Returns To Action For Conference Play

Bison open MEAC play with Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State

WASHINGTON (September 28, 2017) – After more than a week away, the Howard Volleyball team opens conference play with Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State (DSU).

Friday, HU travels to Princess Anne to meet the Hawks. Match time is set for 6 p.m. Fans will have the opportunity to follow all the action via Live Stats and Live Video.

Sunday, the Bison return home where DSU awaits. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.

LAST TIMEOUT

Despite senior Khaila Donaldson and junior Tamia Dockery each registering a double-double, the Bison suffered a road loss at UMBC (19-25, 25-27, 21-25).

In their final tune-up before conference play, HU evaporated a 2-0 deficit, but came up short against the Zhejiang China Volleyball Club (21-25, 11-25, 31-29, 25-20, 9-15). Donaldson and Dockery each registered a double-double in the loss.

MATCHUP PREVIEW

Howard leads the all-time series against Eastern Shore, 22-20, including eight consecutive victories. Maryland Eastern Shore completed its early part of the schedule with a 13-5 record, earning one tournament win at the Terrier Invitational in New York, three runner-up finishes and a third place spot.

Delaware State meets Rider in a nonconference match Friday while searching for their first victory of the season (0-13). Before the season, DSU was projected to finish last in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division.

Howard enters the weekend 2-12 but their two victories did not come stingily, with triumphs over Santa Clara and Virginia. HU looks to snap a five-match skid and begin their quest for a third straight MEAC title. Offensively, Donaldson has recorded 194 total kills on the season. Dockery, two-time MEAC Setter of the Week, leads the squad with 517 assists and 143 digs.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

HU hosts nearby George Washington in their nonconference finale. Tuesday's match is 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Howard hits the road to Baltimore to resume conference play at Morgan State. First serve at 7 p.m.
