WASHINGTON, D.C. – Howard Volleyball earned a split on the final day of the D.C. Challenge inside Burr Gymnasium. HU dropped the morning match versus crosstown rival American, 0-3 (24-26, 21-25, 21-25), but rebounded and picked up their first win of the season against Santa Clara (25-21, 25-17, 19-25, 28-26).
Khaila Donaldson registered a double-double in the victory over Santa Clara, posting 19 kills and 10 digs.
Jurnee Tipton produced 12 kills while eclipsing a .458 attacking percentage.
After taking the first two sets, Santa Clara fought back and won set three, 19-25.
Santa Clara pushed the fourth set into extras, but consecutive kills from Tipton and Donaldson sealed the deal, 28-26.
Tamia Dockery flirted with a double-double, registering 35 dimes and eight digs in the win.
In the morning match, Donaldson manufactured a team-best 12 kills. Dockery recorded 31 assists and eight digs while
Carlise Cardoza added 10 digs in a losing effort.
On Monday (Aug. 28), HU welcomes Pac-12 foe Washington State to The Burr. Match-time is set for 7 p.m.
