TOWSON, Md. – The Howard University softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader to Towson on Wednesday afternoon at the Tiger Softball Stadium.
The Bison were shutout in the opening game in five innings, 8-0, before dropping the nightcap on a 5-1 decision. Howard has a 2-28 overall record while the Tigers improved to 20-22.
GAME ONE
Kamryn Tillman recorded the only hit of the first meeting between the Bison and Tigers on a single in the fourth.
Pitcher Alexa Walker (0-13) was charged with the loss after four innings in the circle. She gave up six runs (five earned) on five hits to go along with five walks and one strikeout. Alex Flynn made an appearance for 0.2 innings to allow two runs and three hits.
The Tigers used a three-run fourth inning on a pair of homers to put the game out of reach.
Pitching made the difference for Towson as Julia Smith-Harrington let in one hit and delivered five strikeouts in five innings for the win.
GAME TWO
Chloe Lyon had a team-high two-hit outing against Towson to pace the Bison. Kamryn Tillman and Deja Henderson also tallied one hit apiece.
Alex Flynn (2-9) put in five innings of work as she made her 11th start of the season in the circle. She allowed 10 hits and five runs (four earned) before being pulled. Monica Thompson pitched one inning of relief and limited the Tigers to two hits to halt their scoring.
Tillman extended her hitting streak to three games with her fifth home run of the season. With two outs in the opening frame of the game, she drove the ball over the left field fence for Howard's lone tally.
Once again, pitching was the defining factor for the Tigers as Megan Dejter retired 18 consecutive Howard hitters.
UP NEXT
The Bison will jump back into MEAC play with a three-game series against Delaware State. Howard will start off with a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 22 at 1 p.m. before a single game on Sunday, Apr. 23 at noon.
