GUAYNABO, P.R. – The Howard University softball team fell behind early as Furman posted four runs during the opening pair of innings and didn't look back on its ways to a 9-0 five-inning victory on Friday at the Puerto Rico Classico.
The Paladins (12-12) led 1-0 on a two-out RBI double in the first. Furman kept it up in the second with a two-run double and RBI single to push its advantage to 4-0.
Following a couple of rain delays, the Paladins added five runs over the fourth and fifth innings for the final 9-0 tally.
Alexa Walker (0-5) started the game and gave up four runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk in two innings. Alex Flynn entered the circle for three innings and allowed five runs (two earned) on a trio of hits with two strikeouts.
Alannah Baiyina and Chloe Lyon each had a hit for the Bison.
Howard (0-12) will continue play in the tournament against Albany and Florida A&M on Saturday.
