Tallahassee, FL---The Howard University men's basketball team is looking to snap their current three-game losing streak when they take on the Rattlers of Florida A&M on Saturday at 6 pm in the Al Lawson Teaching Center.
The Bison (5-17, 2-5 in the MEAC) are coming off a 77-68 home loss to South Carolina State on Monday while the Rattlers (5-16, 3-5 in the MEAC) also dropped their fourth in the last five games, s 77-60 decision to Morgan State on the road on Monday.
Howard should have some extra incentive for the loss that FAMU handed them in Burr Gym in the conference opener for both teams. The Rattlers, who had dropped 10 in a row headed into that game, shot an incredible 62 percent from three-point range to rain on the Bison's parade. Howard entered that game, hopeful that it would get on a roll with the return of the backcourt of James "J-Byrd" Daniel and James "JT" Miller. It was the first time that the two had played together as both were coming off injuries.
They did combine for 43 of their team's points, but they both showed some rust in the second half and it cost them as FAMU had their best shooting night of the season.
With Daniel out indefinitely, Howard has missed his scoring ability and has turned to Miller and Charles "CJ" Williams to pick up the slack. Miller is averaging 15 points per game and Williams, the odds-on MEAC Rookie of the Year is averaging almost 17. But the Bison have got little else from the remaining starters and reserves. It has resulted in an inability to finish out games.
The Rattlers are led by Desmond Williams, who averages 15 points per game and ranks in the Top 5 several MEAC statistical categories.
Both teams are desperate for a win as the conference regular season winds down and teams start jockeying for seeding.
