Washington, DC---There figures to be a lot of emotion displayed when the Howard University men's basketball team hosts the University of Maryland Eastern Shore at 8 pm in Burr Gymnasium. It will be Senior Night for 8 members of the team who will be playing their last regular season home game in a Bison uniform.
Kofi Andoh, Prince Okoroh, Marcel Boyd, James "J-Byrd" Daniel, Solomon "Solo" Mangham, Damon Collins, Chuck Smith and Tyler Stone will all be honored in the pre-game ceremonies.
As for the game, Howard (7-22, 4-10) will be looking to build on the past two performances. Although they lost both games, they gave a spirited effort against the Number 1 and Number 2 teams in the MEAC.
The Bison lost a hard-fought 66-59 decision to North Carolina Central at home and a 73-65 setback to Norfolk State on Saturday.
Despite not having James "JT" Miller Miller in the lineup due to a thigh injury, the Bison went toe-to-toe with the Spartans before foul trouble and lack of depth took its toll. Howard got yet another outstanding performance from Charles "CJ" Williams, who led all scorers with 28 and Mangham, who recorded his seventh double double (14 points, 13 rebounds) of the season. Collins and reserves Andoh and Tyler contributed to the effort.
Miller's status is doubtful for this game so Andoh may get the nod. In the Hawks (11-14, 8-6 in the MEAC), Howard faces a team that is trying to improve its position as the season winds down and the tournament gets underway next week (March 6-11 in Norfolk, Va).
The Bison defeated UMES early in the season for their first road conference win of the season. The Hawks have won three of their last four.
NEXT UP: Howard closes out the regular season at Delaware State on March 2 in Dover, DE at 7:30 pm.
