WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Howard University women's basketball team is back in action in Burr Gymnasium when it hosts Morgan State on Monday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m.
Monday's theme for the game will be "Love & Basketball Night in the Burr". In honor of the sesquicentennial, the first 150 ladies wearing red will receive a rose. All fans are encouraged to WEAR RED.
The Bison (11-11, 7-3 MEAC) are coming off a huge win on Saturday when they took down rival Hampton, 67-62, in the HU Convocation Center. It was the first time Howard defeated the Lady Pirates in Hampton since Jan. 21, 2002.
Freshman Sarah Edmond was impressive with a career-high 15 points, four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal. Senior Sydni Johnson also added 15 points, while rookie Jayla Myles scored nine points and tallied five blocks and four boards. Redshirt junior Erin Blaine pulled down nine rebounds and redshirt senior Te'Shya Heslip handed out eight assists.
Howard shot a season-high 57.8 percent from the floor, making 26 of its 45 attempts. The Bison also recorded a season-best 10 blocks and connected on 57.1 percent (12-21) of their free throws.
Morgan State picked up its second straight victory by besting Delaware State, 74-47, on Monday. All five of the Lady Bear starters reached double figures, led by Zuri White, Jihayah Chavis and Braennan Farrar with 12 points each. Chelsea Mitchell and Tykyrah Williams had 10 points apiece.
The Lady Bears moved to 4-19 overall and 2-8 in the MEAC with the win. Monday's contest will be the only regular season meeting between Howard and Morgan State.
