CINCINNATI (December 14, 2017) – Coach
Ty Grace and the Howard University Women's Basketball team saw their three-game winning streak come to an end after an 87-53 loss at Cincinnati (UC).
Despite shooting only 28-percent (18-of-65) from the field, 10 Bison scored in the contest. Sophomore
Ayonna Williams reached double-figures, finishing with 11 points and two dimes in the loss.
With less than two minutes remaining, UC's Andeija Puckett gave the Bearcats its largest lead of the game, 87-48. Howard refused to lay down as they scored the final five points of the game.
Defensively, sophomores
Jayla Myles and
Imani Bryant each recorded four blocks in a losing effort.
Cincinnati held a double-digit lead with more than two minutes left in the first quarter until HU battled and slice the margin down to single-digits after a layup from
Danielle Griffin, 22-14.
Nearly 30 ticks into the second period, UC pushed the deficit back to double-digits and the Bearcats never looked back.
For UC (7-4), Nikira Goings had a game-high 25 points on 7-of-10 from beyond the arc. Iimar'I Thomas provided double-double, 19 points and 11 boards, while Angel Rizor went a perfect 5-of-5 from the floor and finished with 11 points in the victory.
HU continues its road trip in Athens, Ga. where the Georgia Bulldogs await. Tuesday's contest begins 11 a.m.
