MATCHUP PREVIEWS
After a few days away from the hardwood, HU returns in search for their first win of the season. Howard continues its up-tempo attack, shooting 156 trey balls in six games. Guards
RJ Cole and
Charles Williams spearhead the Bison attack. Cole leads the club in scoring (20 PPG) and assists (6 APG) while eclipsing 86-percent (38-of-44) from the foul line. Williams, 2017-18 MEAC Preseason All-Conference First Team selection, is second on the team in scoring, averaging 16.2 PPG.
"We have to go in there and set the tempo that we want to play and sustain for 40 minutes," said Howard Men's Basketball head coach
Kevin Nickelberry. "It's something this group hasn't been able to do, but I believe over time with experience, we will be fine. I really like this young group of players."
Liberty (4-2) comes in riding a two-game winning streak with double-digit victories over Quinnipiac, 84-72, and Toccoa Falls, 96-50. Before the season, LU earned an exhibition win over Virginia Commonwealth, 85-69, then opened the 2017-18 campaign knocking off Clark Summit, 87-42, and ACC foe Wake Forest, 79-66. Junior Lovell Cabbil leads the squad in scoring (15.8 PPG), which is ninth in the Big South.
"This is a very good team with some solid wins this season, one of them being at Wake Forest," Nickelberry continued. "But I believe we are a good young team who has played a challenging schedule on the road. We won't go into Liberty being intimidated."
