ALBANY, N.Y. (November 25, 2017) – Howard University Women's Basketball team came up short at Siena, 72-61.
HU (0-5) shot a season-best at the foul line, eclipsing 71-percent (12-of-17), including 10-of-12 after intermission.
Sophomore guard
Sarah Edmond led the way with a game-high 22 points, including a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
Siena held a 12-point advantage early into the third period until a trey ball from Edmond sliced the margin down to single digits, 35-26.
Sophomore forward
Imani Bryant cut the deficit as low as seven with a layup, 37-30, but the Saints answered with a 12-4 spurt and held its largest lead of the game, 49-34, with 3:04 remaining in the third. Howard fought back and pulled within 10 going into the fourth quarter, 51-41.

Jayla Myles made the contest a six-point game, 51-45, with less than nine minutes remaining. Siena kept the pressure on as they went on a 10-3 run and extended their lead back to double-digits, 61-48, with 6:03 left.
HU continued to battle, trimming the margin down to single-digits on multiple occasions, but the Saints would keep Howard at-bay.
Senior guard
Tajzhane Dopson chipped in 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field while grabbing six boards.
Siena's Kollyns Scarbrough split a pair of free throws and tied the contest, 10-10, with 4:15 remaining in the first quarter. Within a minute, Howard scored five quick points and held a 15-10 advantage with more than three minutes left in the opening period. Siena fought back and closed the first quarter on an 8-3 run and tied the game after one, 18-18.
After a fast start, the Bison could not sustain their momentum as they produced only five points; thus, Siena outscored HU in the second period, 15-5, and took a 10-point lead into halftime, 33-23.
For Siena (2-3), they had 36 points off the bench. Sabrina Piper and Maddie Sims combined for 33 points in a reserve role while Aaliyah Jones added 12 points in the victory.
HU begins a three-game home stretch, beginning Tuesday, Nov. 28 against Fairleigh Dickinson. Game-time is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside Burr Gymnasium.
