CONWAY, S.C. (November 11, 2017) – After knocking out Hartwick, Coach
Phillip Gyau and the Howard University Men's Soccer team went toe-to-toe with top-seeded Coastal Carolina (CCU); however, a late goal by the Chanticleers would end HU's season, 2-1.
Despite being outshot, 15-8, the Bison battled to the very end.
CCU's Romario Piggott scored and put the Chanticleers ahead early, 1-0.
After intermission, sophomore
Andres Gomez tied the contest at the 50-minute mark, 1-1.
With time running out and overtime lurking, Coastal Carolina's Frantzdy Pierrot delivered the go-ahead goal with under 10 minutes remaining to down HU, 2-1.
Defensively,
Carlos Caro recorded four saves in a losing effort.
Furthermore, five Bison played their final match for HU:
Kyle Celestine; Jonathan Chang;
Nigel Grant;
Isaac Mbappe; and
Austin Williams.
Howard finished its 2017 campaign 2-15-3 overall (0-3-2 SBC) and advanced to the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) Semifinals.
