Volleyball Puts Winning Streak On The Line At Home

Bison seek to extend its winning streak against Hampton and Norfolk State

WASHINGTON (October 12, 2017) – Coach Shaun Kupferberg and the Howard University Women's Volleyball team puts its winning streak on the line against Hampton University and Norfolk State University inside Burr Gymnasium.
 
Howard begins a five-match home stretch on Friday taking on the Lady Pirates at 7 p.m. and the Sunday's match against the Spartan begins at 3 p.m.
 
MATCHUP PREVIEW
 
HAMPTON
 
The Battle of the Real HU continues with the Lady Pirates (8-12, 3-1 MEAC) and Bison tied for second place in the MEAC Northern Division standings. After dropping its first seven contests, Hampton has won eight out of 13 matches.
 
NORFOLK STATE
 
NSU (3-15, 0-4 MEAC) has lost its last seven matches, including all four conference contests. Taylor Eichelberger leads the Spartan attack with 152 total kills while Melvina Brown anchors the defense, recording 255 digs.
 
HOWARD
 
For HU (6-13, 3-1 MEAC), they are riding a four-match winning streak and with an opportunity to take sole possession of second in the MEAC Northern Division Standings. After going a perfect 3-0 last week, the league acknowledged senior Khaila Donaldson and junior Tamia Dockery for their outstanding performances. Donaldson was selected MEAC Volleyball Co-Player of the Week while Dockery took home the conference's top setter.
 
LAST TIMEOUT
 
Howard extended its winning streak to four after knocking off conference foe Coppin State in straight sets (25-22, 25-16, 25-9).
 
Dockery earned her third consecutive double-double, posting 39 assists and 11 digs. Senior Jessica Young also recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs in the victory.
 
THEMES
 
Friday's promotion is Military Night. Active duty military in uniform receive FREE admission. All others, except students, pay just $5 at the door (Cash Only).
 
Sunday's theme is Scholastic Day. After the match against Norfolk State, Coach Kupferberg and the team will provide a one-hour FREE Clinic.
 
UPCOMING SCHEDULE
 
HU continues its home stretch with a pair of conference foes.
 
Friday, the Bison host division-leading Bethune-Cookman on Alumni Night. Match time is 7 p.m.
 
Sunday, Howard takes on Coppin State in a rematch. First-serve at 3 p.m.
