Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bison Drop Another Home Game

Washington, DC---Charles "CJ" Williams scored a team-high 21 points and James "JT" Miller added 19 but the Bison got little else from the rest of the team and fell, 77-68 to South Carolina State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's game at Burr Gymnasium. The game was televised on ESPNU.

Howard (5-17, 2-5 in the MEAC) took the early lead as Williams tallied nine of his points in the first 15 minutes of the game. Marcel Boyd, Damon Collins and Miller each contributed 5 points in a balanced attach.

But the Bulldogs (7-14, 4-4 in the MEAC) used a late run, led by reserves Ian Kinard and Ty Solomon, who combined for 11 points to help their team take a 29-26 lead at halftime.

Williams and Miller continued to carry the scoring load, but SC State turned to its All-MEAC player, Eric Eaves and the senior guard delivered. After tallying 5 points in the first 20 minutes, Eaves went on a tear and helped his team open up its biggest lead at 15. Eaves scored 10 of his points during that stretch while Ian Kinard chipped in with seven points.

Howard made an attempt and was able to cut the deficit to three but turnovers and missed shots again plagued the Bison. They had 18 turnovers, which the Bulldogs converted into 24 points. The Bulldog bench outscored the Bison counterparts, 23-6.

Any attempts that Howard had for a comeback were dashed as SC State converted 18 of 22 free throws in the second half to put the game and hand the Bison their third straight loss.

Collins contributed nine points and Boyd seven and 9 rebounds in a losing effort.

The Bulldogs were led by Eaves who led all scorers with 28 and 9 rebounds and Tashombe Riley and Kinard with 13 each and Greg Mortimer with 11.

NEXT UP: The Bison will try to get back on the winning track when they travel to Tallahassee, FL to take on the Rattlers of Florida A&M on Saturday at 4 pm.
