WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Howard men's soccer team lost to Campbell in overtime, 1-0, on Tuesday afternoon in Greene Stadium. With the defeat, the Bison are 1-3 and the Camels move to 1-1.
Campbell outshot Howard by a 12-9 margin, putting 10 of those shots on goal. Both teams were even with three corner kicks apiece.
Redshirt senior goalie Kenneth Hersey came up big for the Bison on numerous occasions with nine saves on the afternoon. The visiting net-minder, Matthew Mozynski, made a pair of saves.
The Camels flooded the box to start the match, forcing Hersey to deflect three shots in less than two minutes.
The Bison had multiple chances to score, taking seven of their nine shots in the second half alone.
The Camels' Travis Gonzalez picked up a yellow card in the 87th minute, setting up a free kick for Elliott Howe, which sailed high. Howard continued to put the pressure on in the last three minutes of regulation, taking a trio of shots but kept sending them over the net.
Almost four minutes into overtime, Jake Dressman threw the ball in from the sideline and connected with Gideon Betz, who delivered a quick header for the go-ahead goal, 1-0.
Howard has to prepare for an action-packed weekend at home, starting with St. Joseph's on Friday at 7 p.m. The Bison will face LIU Brooklyn on Sunday at 1 p.m.
